Arabic Music Retreat
Founded in 1997, the Arabic Music Retreat features instruction in all facets of Arabic music – including technique, theory, and repertoire. It is considered the premier Arabic music program in the United States.
Led by internationally renowned musician Simon Shaheen, the Retreat brings world-class instruction of Arabic music to the campus of Mount Holyoke College in the town of South Hadley, in western Massachusetts. The event takes place each summer, when the campus is quiet and in its full summer glory.
Zulaika is a member of the staff.

Welcoming Burien Event
Everyone is invited to the Welcoming Burien event in Burien Town Square Park on Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. This free event will feature: Come play with us! The Highline Heritage Museum will offer an array of multicultural games from around the world, including Lotería!

Enjoy an afternoon of hospitality, entertainment, and festivity reminiscent of a Middle Eastern woman’s party. Bring a snack to share (water, lemonade, and mint tea will be provided), a pillow for sitting on the floor, and a hip scarf if you have one. The afternoon includes a short performance featuring Zulaika. You will be treated a lesson on women’s Khaliji dancing (Saudi Arabia & Kuwait) using the beautiful dancing caftan Thobe Nashal (several will be provided to share) and basic Belly Dance moves so you can groove to the latest Arabic beats! Women and girls of all ages are welcome. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
